Closer Look at the Oral-B Pro 1000 Electric Toothbrush

The Oral-B Pro 1000 is the most basic of toothbrushes produced by Oral-B. And so, when it comes to price you get what you pay for. This model is lacking a lot of features when compared to higher-end models. It comes with only one cleaning mode – the standard Daily Clean mode that is offered on all Oral-B toothbrush products.

Lack of features does not mean the toothbrush does not perform as good. If you have spent some time on our blog, you most likely have noticed that we are not very fond of options and features. It is our honest belief that most of them serve as marketing tools to drive the price of electric toothbrushes up.

Many people who have tested this product said they couldn’t believe how clean their teeth felt, even after a single use. So, we had to put their claims to the test and see if this toothbrush is worth the money.

What’s In the Box?

  • Professional Care 1000 Toothbrush (Rechargeable)
  • Charging Stand
  • Precision Clean Brush Head
  • User’s Manual

Pros

  • Good build quality handles daily usage well.
  • Competitively priced, compared with its rivals it has a lot more features for its price range.
  • Lightweight and portable, ideal for taking with you on your travels.
  • 2-year limited warranty.

Cons

How
  • Large brush head can be difficult to use if you have a small mouth and jaw, as it can be uncomfortable when used against the sides of your mouth.
  • Short battery life, many customers have mentioned that they had to change the batteries within a small amount of time.

Design & Features Of Oral-B Pro 1000

Our initial research showed some of Oral-B’s claims regarding the 1000 model to be quite disputable. For example, the brush head is said to be oval shaped but, on closer inspection, you can see that it is a small round brush head instead. Also, the head which comes with the toothbrush is the Cross Action, rather than the Deep Sweep which is often listed in most marketplaces online.

Oral B 5000 Instructions

If you are looking for a brush head which will clean one tooth at a time and get between each of them, then the round head is definitely for you. The good thing is that if you do not like the head that comes in the box, you can attach any other Oral-B head. The click-on brush head technology is available on all Oral-B models. There is an active timer in this brush. The QuadPacer vibrates every 30 seconds to let the user know it is time to move to another section of the mouth. It is great to see this feature on a toothbrush that sells for under $40. With Philips, for example, this feature is only available on high-end products.

After 2 minutes the brush will indicate that you can stop brushing. This amount of time is recommended by dentists as the ideal amount of time to keep your teeth healthy and clean.

One misconception that people tend to have about this model is that it has a pressure sensor. It does not. This is usually an option available to higher priced models by Oral-B and Sonicare. It is a great feature to have, as it prevents users from going too hard on their teeth and gums. However, the Pro 1000 does not come with this feature. I am not sure why people think it does. But, this information is available straight from the manufacturer’s website.

Build quality is something which you should look out for when it comes to buying a toothbrush. Looking at the Oral-B Pro 1000, it feels sturdy and very well made, which can give you the peace of mind you need knowing that it is going to withstand this continuous use.

3D cleaning is a big selling point of this toothbrush. This basically means that unlike normal electric brushes which only oscillate back and forth, the Oral-B Pro 1000 also rotates, which is a great feature to have. This allows you to have the clean of an expensive brush for a fraction of the cost.

Testing the Pro-1000

People have reported that after using this toothbrush, their teeth felt smooth and most noticed a significant improvement in the white of their teeth. With the brush oscillating at 40,000 strokes per minute, it gives a great clean without causing any damage to the teeth and gums. We found it to be a bit too hard at times.

There is no way to control the speed or intensity. The Pro 1000 model is going at full force at all times. This makes it a bit tougher on the gums. We would not recommend this brush for people with receding or sensitive gums. Instead, if you suffer from soft teeth, try one of our recommended toothbrushes for receding gums.

The way in which the head is shaped helps you to be more accurate when brushing. It aids you in targeting key areas which would otherwise go untouched. This is, of course, not unique to this model, but to all Oral-B brush heads.

Holding the brush you can tell that it is one of the cheaper products on the market. However, you can rest assured that Oral-B has faith that it will not break easily, as they offer a 2-year warranty on all purchases of the product.

The main area where this rechargeable toothbrush falls down is the charge time. Many people have quoted that it can take up to 17 hours to charge. I guess these people are not familiar with high-end electric toothbrushes that cost 3 times as much and take up to 24 hours to charge.

Still unsure? Have a look at our comparison between Oral B 1000 and 3000. People often compare the two models, so we’ve written a comprehensive guide that compares all features and usability.
