Back up and restore

Backup

To back up your media and pictures, follow these steps:

Note: You must have a SD card installed.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap My Files.
  3. Tap All files.
  4. Tap sdcard0.
  5. Choose one of the following options:
    • To copy all of your files, tap check box next to sdcard0 to select all files.
    • Locate the media and picture files you want to back up. To the left of the desired file or folder, tap the check box to select the check box. Repeat as desired.
      Note: Pictures and movies captured using the Camera application are stored in the DCIM folder and media may be stored in the Download folder or other folders.
  6. Tap the Copy icon in the top-right.
  7. Tap extSdCard. .
  8. If necessary, navigate to the desired folder.
  9. Tap Paste here.

Restore

To restore backed up media and pictures, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap My Files.
  3. Tap All files.
  4. Tap extSdCard.
  5. Locate the folder containing the desired media or pictures.
  6. To the left of each desired file or folder, tap the check box to select the check box. Repeat as desired.
  7. Tap the Menu icon at top-right and then tap Copy.
  8. Tap sdcard0 to enter your device's internal memory. Navigate to where you want to restore the files.

Reset your device

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

Master reset with settings menu

  1. Back up all necessary data that is on the internal memory.
  2. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Back up and reset.
  5. Tap to clear the Automatic restore check box, if necessary.
  6. Tap to clear the Back up my data check box, if necessary.
  7. Tap OK, if necessary.
  8. Tap Factory data reset.
  9. Tap Reset device.
  10. Tap Delete all.

Master reset with hardware keys

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory if possible.
  2. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files.
  3. Press and hold the Power/Lock key, tap Power off, and then tap OK to turn off the tablet.
  4. Press and hold the Power/Lock key and Up Volume key at the same time.
  5. Release the Power/lock key when the Samsung logo appears.
  6. Release the Up Volume keys when the Android image appears.
  7. When the menu appears, press the Up Volume key to select wipe data / factory reset.
  8. Press the Power/Lock key to select.
  9. Press the Down Volume key to scroll to Yes – delete all user data.
  10. Press the Power/Lock key to select.
  11. Press the Power/Lock key to select reboot system now.

Memory and SIM cards

SIM card

This device supports a full size SIM card.

  1. To insert, open the SIM card slot and carefully push the SIM Card into the slot, with the logo facing up.
  2. Push the SIM card in gently until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, gently push the SIM Card inward to release it, then carefully slide the SIM Card out of the slot.

Memory card

  1. Remove the cover from the microSD card slot on the side of the device.
  2. Line up the card with the gold strips facing down. (1)
  3. Firmly press the card into the slot until you hear a click and the card stays inserted. (2)
  4. To remove the card, firmly press the card into the slot and release it. The card should pop partially out.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.

  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network mode.
  6. Tap one of the following desired band settings:
    • GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)
    • GSM only (2G only setting)
    • WCDMA only

  5. Tap Network operators.
  6. Tap Search now.

Turn on/off data roaming

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.

  5. To turn on, tap Data roaming to select the check box.
  6. To turn off, tap Data roaming to clear the check box.

Turn on and connect to Wi-Fi

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. If necessary, tap the Wi-Fi Switch to On. The Switch moves right and turns green.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi.
  5. If necessary, tap Scan.
  6. Tap the desired Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
  7. If necessary, enter the password.
  8. Tap Connect.
